“For thus saith the LORD GOD, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not” Isaiah 30:15.
Just as a weary army of soldiers need time to rest from the battlefield, so does the immune system, as it is rest that repair is made. Let’s learn a spiritual lesson from this.
2 Chronicles 14:5 “Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the images: and the kingdom was quiet before him.”
Note: Let’s say the images in this scenario represent a foreign substance in the body.
2 Chronicles 14:6 “And he built fenced cities in Judah: for the land had rest, and he had no war in those years; because the LORD had given him rest.”
Note: The images (foreign substances) had been removed and the land was at rest.
2 Chronicles 14:7 “Therefore he said unto Judah, Let us build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet before us; because we have sought the LORD our God, we have sought him, and he hath given us rest on every side. So they built and prospered.”
Note: The Lord gave them rest when they did their part in removing the foreign substance out of the body of Judah. Then, when they were at rest, they built up the walls, towers, gates and bars and fortified the city. This all happened while they were at rest. This happens too in our physical body. They repair themselves when they are at rest, and we make their job a whole lot easier when we keep those idolatrous substances out of our body.
Get adequate restful sleep. A light supper will help. Try to avoid stressful circumstances. Establish good habits and this will help. Anyone familiar with “jet lag” knows how well the body works with habits. A relaxing soak in warm water may help you unwind enough after a stressful day so that you will not need that harmful sleeping pill. Regular times for going to bed and rising will also help. The best time to go to bed is between 9:00 – 9:30 p.m. and no later.
